We believe that every person should have access to and be encouraged to participate in continual learning and skill building. We want our Clients to have opportunities to increase their confidence and competence, even when they choose not to work or while waiting for new jobs.
In addition to educational classes, we have developed a number of innovative and enriching programs to encourage positive interactions between our Consumers and others in our community.
CSN clients have the opportunity to include their artwork, writing and other projects in Art Gallery Nights CSN participates in.
We are committed to providing the community with opportunities to learn about disabilities and what CSN does. We have several major Community Building programs: SALSO, Art Gallery Events and the Community Card Project and the Community Support Store.
Sign Language Class
We like to fill our space with music and beautiful art. CSN has had many community artists and musicians join us to share their talents. Some past artists have included: UW Art Students, drummers, singers, songwriters and even a singing dog!
CSN invites members of the community into our space to teach us about things they love to do. Some of our past guests have lectured on camping, cooking, bicycle safety, motorcycles and reptiles; just to name a few!
Clients are given daily opportunities to work on their writing skills no matter what level they are at. Activities range from practicing penmanship, practicing spelling, completing articles, creative writing and more.
Purchase handmade cards and other art created by CSN clients in our store.
Pets in Dr K.’s Garden
At this time, we do not have any pets of our own. However, throughout the year, we bring in visitors with animals to talk about animal care. Additionally, we talk about and experience the therapeutic benefits of being around animals.
In collaboration with the Madison Public Library System, each month CSN’s library is filled with new books for clients to enjoy.
These enrichment programs are designed as a venue for:
- Our Consumers to teach others about their abilities and contributions to society
- Our Consumers to participate in meaningful activities
- Encouraging our community to engage in socially caring behaviors
- Increasing opportunities for community members to become more involved in activities and careers that are beneficial to our Consumers
